According to Mediatakout.com, one of my favorite couples Usher and Chili may be back together. Apparently, Media Take Out has pictures them eating out together recently. They could just be friends. I was watching Usher's True Hollywood story the other night. I didn't realize that Usher was only 22 when he started dating Chili who was 30 at the time. I"m Back! Did You Miss Me?

I know it has been weeks since I last posted on my blog but life happens. I have been quite busy. I've been working on re writing a manuscript and working on a new idea I had. I sent a few manuscript proposals off and entered a writing contest. Unfortunately, I was not one of the nine chosen for the Kimani Romance Pitch contest; however, one of my writing critique partners was chosen. She picthed her book with Kelli Martin, senior editor of Kimani. She loved my friend's pitch and requested the first three chapters. I am truly excited for her. Hopefully, Kelli will love it and publish the book.

I haven't posted any celebrity information in awhile. Haven't really seen anything I wanted to post. My favorite stars are still making millions and I am still making one hundreds. I may post a few things this week. So check back.

One of my favorite singers, Corrine Bailey Rae, is finally back with a new album. When her husband died in 2008, I was so sad for her. She just disappeared from the limelight. I still rock her debut CD on my Ipod especially the song, Just Like A Star. I am looking forward to her CD release on January 26. Below is her new video "I'd Do it All again. Very touching song and video. I watched it five times in a row and cried the entire time. I kept thinking about how heartbroken she must have felt when her husband and soulmate died. The teachers and other staff members of Dekalb County School System in Metro-Atlanta, are ticked off and I don't blame them. After not recieving a raise for two years, no step increase and their tax sheltered annunity not being met for a year, the Board of Education had the audicity to give the superintendent a $15,000 dollar raise and and increased his expense account from $1000 a month to $2500.

In protest, the teachers picketed the board meeting tonight and are wearing black every Thursday to work for the rest of January. I'm not a teacher, but I will wear black on Thursdays as well. I personally know a lot of teachers in Dekalb County that have been affected. Some are working part time jobs because of the pay cut from their salaries.

Oh and apparently, the superintendent's nephew works (making over $100,000) for the county and his sister in law. That's not in the article. I just heard through the grapevine.

First of all I must say I have been watching reality TV ever since the first Real World New York came out. However, when Frankie and Neffie AKA Dumb and Dumber aired, I was reluctant to watch. I saw the first show and I am sad to say I can never get those thirty minutes back. Anyway, Keisha Cole has released a statement about her estranged family and the rumors that have been spreading in order to make a quick buck off of her.

To all my friends and fans – It’s time that I clear the air. It’s not a secret that I haven’t been in contact with my mother Frankie, and my sisters Neffe and Elite and I never wanted to air out our differences to the public. While I won’t go into detail here, I find it necessary to let you guys know I decided to stop communication with them because I was at a point in my life where I needed serenity and peace to move forward. Please know I love my family very much but it was time to let it go. You guys are a witness to a lot of what was happening from watching on air and online. I am sitting here waiting for the new Real Housewives of Orange County to come on. It seems like I haven't seen a new one since Thanksgiving. The one when they went on the girls weekend trip to Florida and the men tagged along, is playing in the background. Lynne really should have stayed home. She know darn well her face hasn't set yet from the facelift.

While waiting to see Vicki cry and whine again, I decided to take the Which Housewife of Orange County quiz again. Last season I was Gretchen. She's my favorite. This time I am Alexis. I don't quite agree with that considering I don't have any children, 5 nannies, fake boobs and a rich king I mean husband. Yall remember when she said her husband was her king. On to the next one. New Year's Resolutions 2010

Every January 1st I write down a list of New Year's Resolution that I stick on the fridge as well as my desk. However, I never stick to them. This year I am only doing realistic goals. My career goals for this year are to have a novel published and advertise my blog. Personal goals are to be a better wife to my husband, which isn't hard because I have such a great husband, and to be a great friend to my girlfriends. Another little goal is stop saying the word "try". Instead of saying "try", I am going to substitute it for phrases such as "I am going to or I will." I also have that goal that everyone else seems to have: lose some weight. Not much. Just those pesky ten pounds most of which are body fat and water gain. I realize that the older I get, the harder it is to maintain my weight. My metabolism isn't as high as it used to be. But there are ways to speed up one's metabolims. When I was in middle school, I had the biggest crush on Teddy Riley who was in the group Guy at that time. I had posters and pictures of him on my walls. I used to write "Mrs. Teddy Riley" on my folders and notebooks. Well now...I don't know what to think or believe about my first celebrity crush. Anyway, below is a statement he released today pertaining to the alleged beat down he gave his daughters.

Due to recent events, I am compelled to respond in detail to accusations made against me, by my daughters.

I love my Daughters, but I will not allow my children to disrespect me in my home. Contrary to what I have been accused of, I would never beat my children.

Perhaps, I should have been a stronger disciplinarian as they were growing up. I worked very hard so that my children would want for nothing.

In hindsight, I see that it was a mistake to give them everything they wanted so that they could have the childhood I never had. Unfortunately, they have taken me, and the privileged life I have given them, completely for granted.

Instead of being appreciative and realizing how fortunate they are, my children have an inflated sense of entitlement and expectation without having to work or earn their way.
However, my ‘children’ are no longer children, they are adults and I am trying to instill in them values and a work ethic of their own. My mother always told me “too many grown people can’t live in one house” so I encourage them to have their own homes if they cannot abide by the rules of mine. I am not an uptight Dad, I am as hip as they come but I will not tolerate being taken advantage of or disrespected, especially in my home.

I’ve been working since the age of 14, I bought my first car by myself. Nobody gave me a car. My kids don’t even remember their first car. I grew up with 6 of us in an apartment fighting over one bathroom. My kids have never had to share a bathroom, let alone a bedroom.

I’m asking everyone to let this one go… I’m only being a good parent. I’m a great father and everyone who knows me, knows this is true.

Despite all of the hoopla and scandal in his life, Tiger Woods was named Athlete of the Decade by Associated Press. I first heard the news on the Wendy Williams Show. "How you doin?" She stated that most of the votes were cast after the cheating scandal broke, which just proves to me that he still has a vast fan base, including me. I used to have Tiger Woods pictures and posters all over my dorm walls. I just knew I was going to be Mrs. Tiger Woods. However, I just realized, I am not his type. Keep your head up Eldrick!

Now if there was a Athlete of the Century, I wonder who would win? Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Carl Lewis, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice or Tiger Woods, etc. That is a tough decision for me. I was barely born when some of the ones I mentioned were even playing or boxing. However, I love a sexy, tall bald man, so Michael Jordan would more than likely have my vote!

My First Week of Blogging

Well it has already been a week since I started my blog. I didn't quite go in the direction I had planned but I have truly enjoyed blogging. One of my goals for blogging is to help me continue on the right track of my writing career. I actually thought of the blog because I was having tremendous writers block on a romance novel I started in November. My goal was to have a rough draft of 50,000 to 60,000 words by December 1st. Well I am shy of that goal by 40,000 words. But then I hated the beginning and the plot and changed it all. Plus I am on pens and needles waiting to hear back from a senior editor at a major publishing company. I pitched her my book at a conference and she loved it. I emailed her the first three chapters, synopsis and cover letter as requested. If you are new to the writing world that is the three parts of a proposal that most editors and agents will request during a pitch meeting or interview. It takes three to six months before an editor will contact you with either a "no we are sorry, your manuscript just doesn't fit our line of books." Or they may request the rest of the manuscript. I had that to happen one time, only to hear back from a senior editor that "it wasn't what we are looking for." I was disappointed to hear that at first but then an author associate of mine, Elaine Simms, said that at least I got to stage 2 in the game. She should know. She has two romance novels out with that particular publishing company. Check out her website in the cool website section. Her books are steamy!

So now I have to re establish some realistic goals for myself. So starting January 4, 2010, I will once again start my 50,000 word challenge. I also need to finish another novel and re work one and resend. That's sounds like a lot of stuff but if I put in 10 to 12 hour days, than I should be able to. Will keep my loyal This Is for the Cool in You readers posted. I do intend to post at least 4 times a week. Excuse me sometimes if it sounds like ramblings. If it is late more than likely it is the wine talking.

Television reality star Kendra Wilkinson and her adoring husband Hank Baskett, welcomed their first son on December 11, 2009. The newlyweds are overwhelmed that Hank Baskett IV has finally arrived. Kendra's delivery was induced; however, the baby, who weighed 9 pounds, was delivered by C-section. The baby was born at a hospital in Indianapolis because the proud father is a wide reciever for the Indianapolis Colts NFL team. He previously played for the Philadelphia Eagles.

“We are all healthy and incredibly happy and can’t wait to spend every moment with little Hank,” the proud new parents said in a statement released exclusively to OK!.

I was channel surfing this morning when I stopped on Good Morning America. They were discussing the top three most watched Youtube.com videos. The first one was Susan Boyle's Britian's Got Talent with 120 million views. I've never seen it all on Youtube.com until today. I wasn't searching for it. The second most watched video was David After Dentist with 37 million views. I can honestly say I had seen it before but on a news show. I think CNN but don't quote me on that. The third video was JK Wedding Entrance Dance with 33 million views. Personally, I didn't think it was that funny. I am more of a traditional wedding person. If I had to chose my favorite out of the three I would chose David After Dentist. Check it out below.

Sean "Diddy" Combs wax figure was unveiled today at Madame Tussaud's studio in New York. The wax figure of Diddy has on the same outfit he wore for his I AM King cologne promotion. According to Madame Tussauds's website, Diddy also gave a bottle of his cologne to the studio for his wax figure to wear. Cool. The wax figure looks strikingly like him. I wonder are the diamond studs real? Congrats Diddy!

On another note, Diddy is responding to the rumors of him allegedly being engaged to Kim Porter. Rumors have been swirling around about him buying an engagement ring for her and possibly getting married in 2010. Personally, I feel it is a rumor. Aspiring Writers Should Have a Mentor

I was in Borders a few years ago shopping for young adult books with my husband, who wondered off to look at magazines. After about twenty minutes, I was ready to go and went in search of him. He was standing at a book signing table speaking with the author about her books. Cool , I thought. One day I will be at Borders signing books as well. I approached them said hello and then proceeded to show him the books I selected for a group of students we were tutoring. He introduced me to the author whose name was Tina and said I should really read her book. He took out his wallet, gave me a twenty and I skipped away. Literally, not because of the book but because he handed me a twenty and was keeping the change. As I walked back, I noticed she was trying to explain the nature of the book to him and that there were some scenes that perhaps I shouldn’t read. He was like he didn’t mind. He then proceeded to tell her that I was an aspiring author and what were some steps I should take to get published. Tina turned to me and asked what kind of books I write. I told her I had written a young adult and a romance novel that I had sent off but had not heard anything back yet. She was quite impressed and said that was very noble of me to start so young and proceeded to ask what grade I was in.

My husband and I started laughing. My husband said this is my wife. Tina thought I was his daughter, which was why she found it odd he was buying me a book with sex scenes. On that particular day, my hair was pulled back into a pony tail, no makeup and I had on Baby Phat jeans with a simple shirt. I guess I did look like a teenager. Tina and I still laugh about that even today. My husband, who is only 6 years older than me, didn’t really find it that funny. Anyway, we exchanged email addresses and three years later we are still very much in contact. Tina was the very first published author that I had a chance to meet. It gave me the confidence that one day I will be a published author as well. She is encouraging and has given me several pointers and tips about writing.

If you are an aspiring author, I suggest you find a published author as a mentor. Depending on what city you live in, there are several writing groups and organizations that contain published and unpublished authors. Most genres have national organizations with sub chapters in states and cities. I personally belong to Romance Writers of America and Georgia Romance Writers. Kourtney of the crazy, sexy, cool Kardashian sisters had her baby boy this morning in an LA hospital. The baby's name is Mason Dash Disick and he weighed 7 pounds 6 ounces. What a cool idea to put Dash as his middle name. Congrats to Kourtney and Scott!

Hello cool people! Welcome to Candace Shaw Blogs. I am Candace Shaw, freelancer writer and now blogger. My blog will contain a variety of topics geared towards writers who are trying to become published in different genres including romance, young adult and children’s books. Am I a published author you ask? As a matter of fact I am published in the education world.I am the author of several teacher workbooks for teachers and parents to prepare for standardized testing. However, it is under a different pen name. (Candace is my crazy, sexy,cool alter ego) I will eventually share that process for writers who are interested in writing teacher workbooks.
